KENECHI (b. Nassau, The Bahamas) is an independent artist and designer whose practice bridges fine art and fashion through painterly textile work. Working primarily in oil, fabric, and thread, she explores themes of memory, identity, and systemic inequity—often using the visual language of the Rorschach Test to evoke psychological depth and ambiguity. Her pieces are rooted in personal and cultural history, drawing from postcolonial critique, psychoanalytic theory, and the rich storytelling traditions of the Caribbean.
KENECHI began her academic journey with a focus on Western philosophy and sociology, laying a solid foundation for her artistic pursuits. She holds a BA in Fine Art from Leeds Arts University and an MA in Creative Direction from Polimoda. She has worked for international fashion houses, including Fendi, and held positions at The National Art Gallery of The Bahamas. Her work has been exhibited at institutions such as The Savoy (London), The D’Aguilar Art Foundation (Nassau), and The National Art Gallery of The Bahamas, where she was recently selected for the Eleventh National Exhibition.
In 2024, she founded Kenechi Studio, dedicated to artisanal craft and interdisciplinary expression. Operating from her family home in Nassau, she continues to push against infrastructural and societal constraints, creating work that speaks globally while remaining rooted in the Caribbean experience. Her practice is a call for empathy, reflection, and systemic awareness.
This space is KENECHI’s way of sharing the thoughts and inspirations that shape her work — a living catalogue of artist statements, reflections, and pieces that trace the evolution of Kenechi Studio. Each work tells a story, connecting process to purpose, and inviting viewers into the world behind the canvas.
